How Does CityBus Count Passengers?
Bus operators count each passenger by pressing a key on the farebox which counts and classifies passengers by fare type. CityBus also tracks use of wheelchair ramps and bike racks using the farebox technology.
In addition, most buses are equipped with infrared passenger counters at the bus doors to measure the volume of passengers boarding or exiting at specific stops. This data is useful to verify data in the farebox and for planning CityBus routes.
